NO 5. Health Chi Gong ( Qi Gong) Exercise

Preparation:

1. Eliminating metal distractions by assuming a quite mood and adjusting the breath is a basic requirement for ensuring the optimum benefit from the exercise.

2. Practice of the exercise helps to adjust the activity of QI, promoting the ascent of clear QI and descent of turbid Qi, and eliminating waste products and acquiring nutrients.

 

First Posture ( Tiger ):

1. Can improve the flexibility of the spine, increase the range of suppleness and flexion, and maintain the normal curvature of the spinal  column.

2. Helping to prevent and treat common problems of the waist, such as lumbar muscular strain and habitual sprain of the waist.

3. The DUMAI meridian or governor vessel extends along the posterior midline and the Renmai meridian or conception vessel extends along the anterior midline of the body. Can activate those meridians and remove blockages in them, promote the circulation of QI and blood, and adjust the balance of YIN and YANG in them.

 

Second Posture ( Deer ):

1. Can be stretched by medial rotation and forward extension of the arms to prevent and treat frozen shoulder and cervical syndrome. Assuming a bow-like back and contracted abdomen can reinforce the strength of the waist and back, to correct deformity of the spinal column.

2. When stepping forward, Dantian may be filled with QI, and when shifting the weight backward, Mingmen may be activated by QI to communicate congenital QI and postpartum QI, and promote circulation of QI through the Dumai meridian to activate the YANG QI of the whole body.

 

Third Posture ( Bear ):

1. The turning of the body to each side may affect the epigastric region so as to adjust the function of the liver and spleen.

2. Can reinforce the strength of muscles around the hip joint, maintain the body's balance and prevent and treat weakness of the lower limbs in old people, damage to the hip joint and pain in the knee joint.

 

Fourth Posture ( Monkey):

1. The movement of the eyes accompanying the rotation of the neck can improve blood circulation in the brain.

2. The complicated exercise of imitating a monkey picking a peach can integrate the physical and mental activities, and alleviate pressure on the brain. Therefore, it is useful for preventing and treating nervousness and metal depression.

 

Fifth Posture ( Bird ):

1.Can be expanded and the exhalation of waste air and flow of QI to Dantian can be promoted by pressing the palms downward, improving the ventilation and vial capacity of the lungs. In addition, this movement can alleviate symptoms of chronic and pulmonary emphysema.

2. The Dantian and Renmai meridians can be stimulated.
